World’s renowned scientist predicts safe future for creative careers

  • Категория: News

Yuval Harari has been studying humankind for over a quarter of a century. Gates, Obama and other outstanding people often mention him as a favorite writer. Now Harari, the author of 2 bestsellers about human history, predicts that creative careers will have optimistic prospects in the future era of AI and robotization.

In an interview for CNBC, the Israeli historian presumed that the disappearance of repetitive and monotonous jobs (like cashier, librarian, accountant etc.) would be completely natural. That evolutionary process may pave the way to a new, more meaningful job market. According to the scientist, the problem is not the future job disruption but an emerging “useless class” of individuals unable to skill-up for the new roles. Meanwhile, Harari believes that people involved in the creative areas will be in safe as the robots won’t be able to perform their job in the near future.

The historian concludes that the key to human survival lies in constant evolution and reinventing. People should develop new skills all the time, while the government should support people and help them retrain according to the shifting conditions of the job market.

Analysts and scientists have been stating about the job disruption in the era of automation and AI for years. Nevertheless, the predictions vary. For example, OECD states that robots will replace 14% of jobs in developed countries. Consultants at McKinsey estimate that some 400-800 million people will become jobless in a dozen years.
