Canada’s pilot immigration programme is gaining traction

  • Категория: News

Canada is trying to win hearts of expats, preferably French speaking, by offering pilot immigration programme. The programme was introduced earlier this year in the Atlantic Provinces aimed to persuade outstanding or at least high-skilled international graduates to settle in the region. Over 600 employers offered job positions for foreigners just 6 months after the programme launch. Those lucky graduates, who receive the invitation for work, can later apply for permanent residence.

The government of Canada has introduced three different graduate programmes depending on skills and working experience of potential expats. More than 250 applications have been approved since March 2017. Almost ¾ of them are eligible to apply for permanent residence. In return for devoted work in the Atlantic Provinces, the applicants can bring their family members to live in Canada as well. Despite the fact that the programme was launched in January, it is gaining momentum only now. Lucrative offers, clear procedures and a service channel, which helps employers to monitor the progress of the application process, convince the expats.

Atlantic provincial government will supervise the employers, approved for the programme, and control the issuance of working and residence permits. The priority will be given to francophone graduates, although other international students can participate in the pilot scheme too. This is an extrapolation of another recent Canadian immigration attempt called International Mobility Programme, aimed to achieve growing number of French speaking community outside Quebec. Authorities hope that just in a year at least 4% of all economic migrants will come from francophone jurisdictions.
